Medium-intensity earthquake of 4.4 magnitude hits Kargil


An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted Kargil in Ladakh on Tuesday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.


As per the report, the earthquake occurred 435-km north-northwest of Kargil at 5.47 am.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 08-09-2020, 05:47:28 IST, Lat: 38.07 & Long: 73.99, Depth: 90 Km ,Location: 435km NNW of Kargil, Laddakh," tweeted NCS.

There is no report of any damage so far.

More details are awaited.

On Tuesday, another earthquake of magnitude 4 on the Richter scale hit 20 kms east-southeast of Diglipur, Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 3 am.

On Tuesday, an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on the Richter Scale occurred 98 km north of Mumbai at 6:36 am. This was the third earthquake that hit Maharashtra.

"Earthquake of Magnitude: 2.7, Occurred on 05-09-2020, 06:36:31 IST, Lat: 19.96 & Long: 72.83, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 98km N of Mumbai, Maharashtra," NCS had tweeted.

Before that, 2.8 magnitude quake occurred at 91 km North of Mumbai on Friday at 10:33 am. Later at 11:41 pm on the same day, tremors of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale hit 98 km west of Nashik in Maharashtra.
