Mercedes-Benz electric car EQC to be launched in India early next month

Auto major Mercedes-Benz India is all set to drive in its electric car EQC early next month as more and more carmarkers are shifting focus to e-vehicles amid Centre’s push to reduce dependence on fossil fuel.

The price of Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV is expected to be in the range of Rs 1.2-1.5 crore though the carmaker has not revealed it.

According to reports, the Mercedes-Benz EQC may be powered by two electric motors with a lithium-ion battery and power will be sent to all four wheels.

Accordingly, the EQC will be powered by an 80 kWh 348 lithium-ion battery pack. The Mercede-Benz electric SUV makes 408 hp and 760 Nm of torque that is capable for EQC to reach 100 km/h speed in just 5.1 seconds, reported The Indian Express.

The Benz electric SUV has a top speed of 180 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz claims that EQC can be driven up to 450 km on a single charge. There are three charging timings for EQC. In slow charging mode, it takes about 21 hours for full charge, medium charging in 10 hours and fast charging in one-and-half hours.

The Department of Heavy Industries under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, is administering the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme since April, 2015 to promote adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles (xEVs) in India.

At present, Phase-II of FAME India Scheme is being implemented for a period of 3 years with effect from April 1, 2019 with a total budgetary support of Rs 10,000 crore.
