Two youngsters travelling in a car had a narrow escape when the vehicle in which they were travelling was washed away in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday morning.

According to news reports, the duo was proceeding to Bijapur in Karnataka from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and the car was washed away while they were crossing an overflowing culvert on a rivulet. The locals present on the spot dived into the flooding rivulet and saved the duo from the sinking car.

The two persons identified as Rakesh and Yousuf were following an RTC bus plying between Gooty and Guntakal around 8.40 am. The bus crossed the overflowing culvert without any trouble and the car following it caught in the strong current after crossing half-mark of the culvert.

The driver’s entire efforts to take the car to safety went in vain and it slipped into the strong current below the culvert after losing grip on the surface.

The locals, who were present there, jumped into the water and pulled out the two alive and averted a tragedy.

The car got washed away to about 100 meters from the culvert and still was floating on the gushing water. The duo was so lucky that the place was not deep and so the car did not submerge fully. This expidited the rescue operations of the local people and saved their lives.
