NIA arrests 2014 Bengaluru blast accused among two terrorists at Kerala airport

In a joint operation, the NIA and RAW arrested two terroritsts, who were on the lookout notice for a long time, from Thiruvananthapuram airport on Monday evening, said a news report.

One of the arrested is a suspect in the 2014 Bengaluru blast case while the other suspected terrorist is alleged to have involved in hawala case in Delhi allegedly linked to terror funding.

The accused have been identified as Shuhaid hailing from Pappinisseri in Kannur district of Kerala while Muhammad Gul Nawaz, a resident of Uttrar Pradesh.

Shuhaib is a suspect in Bengaluru blast case while Nawaz is allegedly involved in a hawala case in Delhi besides a suspect in Delhi blast case.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) arrested them in a clandestine move. They were on the lookout notice and were deported from Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, reported Mathrubhumi News.

The NIA and RAW officials interrogated both the terror suspects at the airport itself soon after their arrest.

Both the accused will be taken to NIA's office in Kochi tonight and will be interrogated there as well. On Tuesday, Shuhaib will be taken to Bengaluru while Nawaz will be taken to Delhi after producing them in the NIA court in Kochi.

Shuhaib is reportedly an Indian Mujahideen operative while Nawaz is a suspected member of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Shubaib is allegedly a close aide of Thadiyantavida NaZeer, who is a convict in the Kozhikode twin blasts case and is currently lodged in a Bengaluru jail in connection with the trial of Bengaluru blasts case.

NIA claimed that Nawaz has links to Delhi blast case.

On Saturday, the NIA arrested three suspected al-Qaeda terrorists from two places near Kochi in a pre-dawn operation.

The trio identified as Murshid Hasan, Mosaraf Hoseen and Yakub Biswas hail from Bengal's Murshidabad district. Murshid Hasan was held from the Pathalam industrial area near Kochi, while Iyakub Biswas and Mosaraf Hossen were arrested from Perumbavoor near Aluva, a suburban area near Kochi.

Six other suspected al-Qaeda terrorists were arrested from Bengal’s Murshidabad district in a similar operation at the same time on Saturday.

Based on the inputs received from the nine al-Qaeda operatives caught from Bengal and Kerala, the NIA alerted both the states to remain alert keeping in view the forthcoming festive seasons.
