PM Modi to inaugurate 1.75 lakh homes built in Madhya Pradesh under 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 1.75 lakh houses built in Madhya Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), today.

The PMAY is a housing initiative of the Government of India launched in 2015 to provide affordable housing to the urban and the rural poor.

As per the report, the Prime Minister will participate in the program through video conferencing and will talk with some of the beneficiaries of the scheme. The state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will also attend the ceremony.

On Friday, PM Modi had said that this is an important step in achieving the goal of providing houses to the poor by 2022.

"This is another important step in achieving the target of giving a house to every family in the country by 2022. These houses built under PM Awas Yojana-Gramin are proof that the corona pandemic too could not stop the development works," PM Modi tweeted.

The target of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is to build 20 million affordable houses by March 2022.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office had said all these houses have been built or completed during the challenging COVID-19 period.

As part of the Modi government's "Housing for All by 2022", for which a flagship programme of PMAY-G was launched in November, 2016, 1.14 crore houses have been built across the country so far.

As per the report, in Madhya Pradesh, 17 lakh poor households have benefited from this scheme till now
