Rahul, Priyanka visit Tihar jail to meet former finance minister Chidambaram

NEW DELHI: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the Tihar jail on Wednesday to meet former finance minister P Chidambaram.

Chidambaram is currently lodged in Tihar jail under judicial custody after the ED arrested him last month in connection with the INX Media money laundering case.
On November 25, Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had visited Tihar jail to meet Chidambaram. He was accompanied by Chidambaram's son and Congress MP, Karti.
Chidambaram was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case.
However, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in that case on October 22, but he could not be released from the jail since ED arrested him on October 16 in money laundering case related to the same matter.
The case pertains to an FIR registered by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 by Chidambaram when he was the Finance Minister. Thereafter, a case was registered by the ED.
He is in judicial custody till November 27 under the order of a trial court.
