Tamil Nadu has highest recovery rate in country, says CM Palaniswami

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday said that the state has the highest recovery rate in the country and the lowest mortality rate in the world.

 

He also informed that 86 per cent of COVID-19 cases in the state are asymptomatic.

 “86 per cent of COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu are asymptomatic. We have the highest recovery rate in India and the lowest mortality rate in the world," said Palaniswami.

"We have 72 locations and testing approximately 13,000 people on a single day," the chief minister added.

He also informed that the state has 292 COVID-19 government and private hospitals. The government has appointed 530 doctors and 2323 nurses on a contract basis. 

“Unless there is public support, we can't win over this pandemic, therefore wearing a mask and social distancing is essential and ought to be followed strictly," he said.

As India is attempting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus, some states are continuing to see a steady rise in cases.

Among the Indian states, Maharashtra remains to be the worst affected state by the deadly virus. It is followed by Tamil Nadu, and Delhi.

Adding over 8,000 infections in the last eight days, Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 tally on Sunday shot past the 31,000 mark, with a total of 269 deaths.

According to the state's Health Department, Tamil Nadu has reported 1515 more COVID-19 cases and 18 deaths on Sunday. Eighteen among the 1,515 fresh cases were returnees from other states and foreign countries

The total number of cases in the state is now at 31,667, including 14396 active cases, 16999 discharged.

Meanwhile, with 9,983 new cases in the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally reached 2,56,611 on Monday. With an increase of 206 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen 7,135.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 1,25,381, while 1,24,094 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.
