Telangana govt rules out another total lockdown

South India

Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar has set at rest the roumours doing rounds in the state that the state would impose total lockdown once again in the light of the surging Covid-19 cases across the state.

Times of India reported that the chief secretary as well as several ministers the newspaper contacted had ruled out any such move. When TOI sent a message to the CS asking whether there is any proposal to go for another round of complete shutdown, the reply from him was a firm “no.”

TOI also spoke to a couple of ministers and all of them said there was no truth in the rumours. “Even the medical and health department has not received any such direction,” said health minister Eatala Rajender.

However, animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav’s comments in an interview to a private television channel that the chief minister would take a decision on it in two to three days led to confusion.

Srinivas Yadav clarified that the question posed to him in the interview was not about lockdown.

The state has been witnessing a steady rise in new coronavirus positive cases and fatalities. The state reported nine deaths and 164 positive cases on Friday, June 12. The state at present has 4,484 cases.
