Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao’s gunmen among eight employees tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday. The minister said he has already gone into home quarantine as a precautionary measure though he is yet to be contracted by the virus.

The minister in a statement said that eight of his employees including a watchman and gunmen tested positive for COVID-19 and they are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad.

Rao said that about 40 of his staff working in Hydrabad and Warangal had undergone the test on July 21, reported Sakshi Post. Eight of them were found to have infected with the virus.

The minister ruled out the rumours spreading over various social media that he tested positive and termed such claims baseless.

Last week, TRS MP and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter Kavitha had gone into home quarantine after her driver tested positive for COVID-19.

Several Telangana legislators have already tested positive for COVID-19 besides many leaders of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

On July 23, TRS MLC and former deputy chief minister Kadiam Srihari tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier, Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda Goud, his wife Sowjanya and son Vidhat tested positive for coronavirus.

Telangana has over 50,000 coronavirus positive cases and as many as 463 succumbed to the virus till Sunday. Over 40,000 patients have been discharged and there are 12,264 active cases in the state now.
