Telangana records 2,012 new coronavirus cases, 13 deaths

Telangana witnessed 2,012 new COVID-19 cases and 13 more fatalities, taking the tally of those infected by the virus in the state to 70,958.

 

As per the state government bulletin on Wednesday, out of the new cases, 532 were from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri 198 and Rangareddy 188.

As many as 50,814 people recovered from the infectious disease so far, while 19,568 were under treatment. The death toll stands at 576.

As per the report, the COVID-19 fatality rate in the state was 0.81 per cent, while it was 2.10 per cent at the national level.

The recovery rate was 71.6 per cent in the state, while it was 66.31 per cent in the country.

According to the bulletin, 21,118 samples were tested on August 4 taking the cumulative to 5.22 lakh.

It noted that the percentage of deaths caused by comorbidities was 53.87 per cent whereas that of casualties due to COVID-19 was 46.13 per cent.

The state government has made elaborate arrangements for treating COVID-19 patients and sufficient beds are available in state-run hospitals.

The state currently has 17,818 vacant beds for COVID patients. Around 11,619 regular beds, 4,322 oxygen beds, and 1,877 ICU beds are lying vacant. The total number of ventilators in the state stands at 1,117.

Health minister Eatala Rajendra said over 300 beds will be added to the ICU ward at Gandhi Hospital in a couple of days. He said order has been placed for special ventilators which will be installed in the wards.
