uoyed by the victory in the Dubbaka Assembly bypoll, the Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up for a huge fight. The saffron party has roped in its national general secretary Bhupender Yadav to steer the party in the polls.

The Telengana Sate Election Commissioner has on Tuesday, November 17, announced the dates for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections have been announced.

The election for the 150 wards will be held on December 1, re-polling if necessary on December 3 and counting of votes on December 4.

The nomination process will begin on November 18 while the last day for filing of nominations is November 20. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is November 24.

The GHMC polls were due long ago but were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), which won 99 seats in the last election, is leaving no stone unturned in retaining the corporation while BJP, which is buoyed by the victory in the Dubbaka Assembly bypoll, is gearing up to do well.

While TRS leadership has pushed its MLAs into the campaign front, the BJP has roped in its national general secretary Bhupender Yadav to steer the party in the polls. Yadav was also behind BJP’s stellar performance in the just-concluded Bihar polls.

GHMC has over 74,04,000 voters. The electorate consists about 52.09 per cent male and 47.90 per cent female voters. In the light of the coronavirus pandemic, the election commissioner has increased poll timing by one hour from 7 AM to 6 PM against the earlier timings 7 AM to 5 PM.

The SEC clarified that there would be no e voting as it required amendment (with inputs from UNI)
