Thevar Jayanthi: Tamil Nadu CM Palaniswami, his deputy pay tribute to freedom fighter Muthuramalingam

Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar was a significant figure in the 20th-century politics of Tamil Nadu.

 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam among several dignitaries observed Muthuramalingam Guru Pooja in Pasumpon village on Friday.

Leaders of the opposition also paid tributes to freedom fighter Muthuramalingam Thevar on his birth anniversary, marked as Guru Pooja.

According to the news agency ANI report, more than 8,000 police personnel were deployed at the village on the occasion.

However, people from other states were not permitted in the village due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, local residents were allowed with COVID protocols like wearing face masks and temperature checks.

All those visiting the memorial were required to obtain prior permission from the collector. Vehicle passes also have to be obtained.

Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar was a significant figure in the 20th-century politics of Tamil Nadu.

Thevar Jayanthi is celebrated on October 30 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar. 

The birth anniversary of freedom-fighter-cum-spiritual leader is also called Guru Pooja.
