Chinese video-sharing social networking service TikTok has facilitated donations to the PM CARES Fund with an in-app quiz called ‘Kheloge Aap, Jeetega India’ organised to bring the user community together and build awareness around the spread of coronavirus.

The app empowers users by encouraging them to take part in the quiz and answer COVID-19 related questions, with a promise that TikTok would donate to the PM-Cares Fund.

The in-app quiz is available in 11 Indian languages. It was developed with an aim to “Educate, Engage and Empower” users by sharing coronavirus preventive measures and correct information through the game.

Within five days, it received over 70 lakh entries from TikTok users across the country.

“We have been encouraged by the support and enthusiasm for this initiative, and are now donating over 10x of our original pledge,” TikTok said in a statement.

“Our total donation to the PM CARES Fund now amounts to Rs 30 crore and commemorates the overwhelming response to our efforts by users,” it said.

"This donation is part of our continued endeavour to support the nation and our communities in the fight against COVID-19”, it added.

Since February 2020, TikTok has undertaken several initiatives to create awareness about safety measures related to COVID-19, such as the in-app awareness initiatives- Ghar Baitho India, Fight The Darkness, Janata Curfew and by elevating the content shared by credible partners such as MyGov, PIB, WHO, UNDP India and UNICEF India on the platform

TikTok said that as a responsible organisation, it is committed to supporting the safety and well-being of people in India through its platform.

The company also thanked its users for coming forward to spread awareness and contribute to India’s fight against COVID-19.
