Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor dies at 67

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who has had a glorious career in the world of Hindi cinema, passed away at a Mumbai hospital on Thursday.

 

67-year-old actor was suffering from cancer. He was taken to the H N Reliance hospital by his family on Wednesday.

The actor had been ailing for a while. After being diagnosed with leukemia  in 2018, he underwent treatment in New York for almost a year. 

He returned to India in September 2019, but was rarely seen in public. Kapoor, who has been quite active on social media, hasn't posted anything on his Twitter account since April 2.

Post his return to India, Rishi Kapoor has often made headlines for his health condition.

He is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, son Ranbir and daughter Riddhima.

Tributes have been pouring in for the legendary actor Rishi Kapoor from actors, members of the film industry, prominent personalities and politicians.

“Anguished by the passing away of noted film actor Rishi Kapoor. He carved a special place in the hearts of his fans with his inimitable style and performances. My thoughts are with his family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti”, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.

"Deeply saddened by the sudden demise of actor Rishi Kapoor. He entertained several generations of Indians throughout his career. What a terrible loss. My condolences to the grieving family. May God bless his soul," Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

“This is a terrible week for Indian cinema, with the passing of another legend, actor Rishi Kapoor. A wonderful actor, with a huge fan following across generations, he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family, friends & fans all over the world, at this time of grief”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

“Extremely sad to hear about the demise of #RishiKapoor ji. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones”, Indian cricketer VVV Laxman tweeted.

“It seems like we’re in the midst of a nightmare...just heard the depressing news of #RishiKapoor ji passing away, it’s heartbreaking. He was a legend, a great co-star and a good friend of the family. My thoughts and prayers with his family,”Actor  Akshay Kumar tweeted.

Bollywood veteran Rishi Kapoor, is the second son of legend Raj Kapoor. He made his film debut with Mera Naam Joker, which fetched him a national award.

The actor was last seen in Emraan Hashmi’s The Body and had recently announced his next project, a remake of Hollywood film The Intern, also featuring Deepika Padukone.
