Wistron Apple iPhone facility violence case: FIR against 7,000 people in Karnataka

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against 7,000 unknown people including 5,000 contract workers in connection with violence and vandalism at the facility of Wistron Pvt Ltd, manufacturer of iPhone, at its plant in Kolar, news agency ANI reported.

In the FIR, the company stated that it suffered losses of over Rs 437.7 crores during the violence on December 12. 
Violence erupted on Saturday at Wistron's plant at Narsapura, near Bengaluru, after some employees, reportedly angry over salaries, vandalised the facility's premises.

As per the FIR registered at Vemagal police station, Kolar, damages have been done to the property, office materials, vehicle and other things,

According to the complaint filed by Wistron, it incurred losses of Rs 437.7 crore due to the vandalism and theft. This included Rs 412 crore of mobile phones, laptops and other production machinery, besides damage of around Rs 10 crore to infrastructure and service.

The complaint by Wistron states that a total of 7,000 people were possibly involved in the incident, including 5,000 contract workers.

Earlier on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka CN Ashwath Narayan condemned the incident where hundreds of workers were seen entering the Wistron manufacturing plant at Narasapura in Kolar and smashing the office properties.

He had said that those who took "law into their own hand" shall be "dealt with very strongly".

Apple is Wistron’s biggest customer, but the manufacturing facility also produces products for other companies. Wistron has two manufacturing plants in Karnataka and produces the iPhone SE and the iPhone 7.
