With 45,149 new cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 79-lakh mark

With an increase of 45,149 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 79- lakhs mark.  

 

In the past 24 hours, India has 45,149 coronavirus cases, taking its total count 79,09,960.

Meanwhile, 480  patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 1,19,014. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 6,53,717. Meanwhile 71,37,229 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

With 1,41,001 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 14,60,755 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 43,264 have died so far.

Among other severely affected states, Kerala has 96,688 active cases, while 2,94,910 patients have been cured so far in the state along with 1,332 deaths reported due to the disease.

Karnataka has 81,069 active cases, while 7,10,843 people have recovered and 10,905 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
