With 45,576 new COVID-19 cases, India's COVID-19 tally reaches 89.58-lakh mark

After a dip in daily coronavirus cases count for some days, India is again witnessing a surge in fresh infections as 45,576 confirmed cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

 

With 45,576 new COVID-19 infections reported in the last 24 hours, India's total coronavirus cases surged to 89.58- lakh mark.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Thursday said that India's total coronavirus cases surged to  89,58,484.

Meanwhile, 585 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 1,31,578. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 4,43,303. Meanwhile at 83,83,602 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

This is the twelfth consecutive day when India reported less than 50,000 cases in a day. The last time daily new cases crossed the 50,000-threshold was on November 7.

Maharashtra has 81,207 active coronavirus cases, the highest in the country, followed by Kerala with 69516 and Delhi with 42,458.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
