With 53,370 new cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 78-lakh mark

With an increase of 53,370 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 78- lakhs mark. 

 

In the past 24 hours, India has 53,370 coronavirus cases, taking its total count 78,14,682.

Meanwhile, 650  patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 1,17,956. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 6,80,680. Meanwhile 70,16,046 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

With 1,44,426 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 14,45,103 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 43,015 have died so far.

Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 89,502 active cases, while 6,93,584 people have recovered and 10,821 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Kerala has 95,760 active cases, while 2,80,793 patients have been cured so far in the state along with 1,232 deaths reported due to the disease.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
