With 54,044 new COVID-19 cases, India's coronavirus tally crosses 76-lakh mark

With an increase of 54,044 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 76- lakhs mark. 

 

In the past 24 hours, India has 54,044 coronavirus cases, taking its total count 76,51,108.

Meanwhile, 717 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 1,15,914. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 7,40,090. Meanwhile 67,95,103 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

With 1,74,755 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 13,92,308 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 42,453 have died so far.

Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 1,03,964 active cases, while 6,62,329 people have recovered, 10,608 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
