With highest single-day spike of 64,399 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 21 lakh mark

With the spike of 64,399 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally breached the 21 lakh mark on Sunday.

 

With this latest spike, the total cases in the country stand at 21,53,011. Meanwhile, the fatalities count rises to 41,580.

As many as 861 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative toll to 43,379.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 6,28,747. Meanwhile, 14,80,885 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra has 1,47,355 active coronavirus cases, the highest in the country.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,19,364 samples were tested on August 8 while over 2.41 crores samples so far have been tested in the country.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
