With highest single-day spike of 66,999 cases, India's COVID-19 tally close to 24 lakh mark

 With the spike of 66,999 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally breached the 23.96 lakh mark on Thursday.

 

With this latest spike, the total cases in the country stand at 23,96,638.

As many as 942 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative toll to 47,033.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 6,53,622. Meanwhile, 16,95,982 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

As India is attempting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus, some states are continuing to see a steady rise in cases.

Maharashtra's active caseload stand at 1,47,820, the highest in the country followed by Andhra Pradesh with 90,425 active cases.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
