With single-day spike of 83,809 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 49-lakh mark

With an increase of 83,809 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 49 lakhs mark.

 

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 83,809 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to 49,30,237.

Meanwhile, 1,054  patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 80,776.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 9,90,061. Meanwhile 38,59,400 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra which is most affected by the pandemic has 2,91,630 active cases of COVID-19. Karnataka has 98,482 active cases, Andhra Pradesh has 93,204, Tamil Nadu 46,912 and Delhi 28,641.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil to become the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
