With single day spike of 93,337 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 53-lakh mark

With an increase of 93,337 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 53 lakhs mark.

 

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 93,337 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to  53,08,015.

Meanwhile 1,247 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 85,619. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 10,13,964. Meanwhile 42,08,432 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

As far as the active cases are concerned in the states, Maharashtra has 301273 active cases, Karnataka 101148, Andhra Pradesh 84423, Uttar Pradesh 67825 and Tamil Nadu 46506.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the cumulative total samples tested up to September 18 are 6,24,54,254. The number of samples tested on September 18 is 8,81,911.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil and became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
