With single-day spike of 94,372 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 47-lakh mark


In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 94,372 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to 47,54,357,.


With an increase of 94,372 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 47 lakhs mark on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 1,114 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 78,586.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 9,73,175. Meanwhile 37,02,596 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra -- the worst-affected State from the infection -- has a total of 2,71,934 active cases and 28,724 deaths due to COVID-19. 

Andhra Pradesh is the second worst-hit state, followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi.

Andhra Pradesh has a total of 96,191 active cases and 4,779 deaths due to the virus.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 47,918 active cases and 8,231 deaths from the pathogen while Karnataka has a total of 98,345 active cases and 7,067 patients succumbing to COVID-19 in the state.

Delhi has a total of 26,907 active cases and 4,687 fatalities due to the coronavirus.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil to become the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
