With single day spike of 96,424 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 52-lakh mark

With an increase of 96,424 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 52 lakhs mark.

 

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 96,424 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to  52,14,678.

Meanwhile 1,174 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 84,372. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 10,17,754. Meanwhile 41,12,552 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Among the States, Maharashtra has 3,02,135 active COVID-19 cases, Karnataka 1,03,650, Andhra Pradesh 88,197, Uttar Pradesh 68,235, and Delhi 31,721.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,15,72,343 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 17th September. Of these, 10,06,615 samples were tested yesterday.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil and became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
