With single day spike of 97,894 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 51-lakh mark

With an increase of 97,894 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 51 lakhs mark.

 

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 97,894 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to 51,18,254 .

Meanwhile 1,132 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 83,198.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 10,09,976. Meanwhile 40,25,080 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra has 2,97,506 active cases of coronavirus, the highest in the country. While Karnataka with 1,01,645 cases, Uttar Pradesh (96,7002), Andhra Pradesh (90,279) and Delhi (30,914) are also on the list.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,05,65,728 samples were tested up to September 16 for COVID-19. Of these, 11,36,613 samples tested yesterday.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil to become the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
