With spike of 86,961 cases, India's COVID-19 tally reaches at 54,87,581

With an increase of 86,961 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 54.87 lakhs mark.

 

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 86,961 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to  54,87,581.

Meanwhile 1,130 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 87,882. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 10,03,299. Meanwhile 43,96,399 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected State in the country with 2,97,866 active cases and 8,57,933 cured and discharged patients. The toll due to the disease stands at 32,216.

Karnataka is the second-most affected by the disease currently with 98,583 active cases in the State. Over four lakh people have been cured and discharged in the State apart from 7,922 deaths owing to the disease.

Andhra Pradesh with 81,763 active and 5,30,711 cured patients is also severely affected. 5,302 people have lost their lives due to the disease so far in the state.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil and became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world.

The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
