BANGALORE: In a circular, the government of Karnataka has directed that crackers can be burst only between 8 pm and 10 pm, for four days starting November 5.
Earlier, the Supreme Court in an altered order has allowed all southern states to burst crackers anytime for two hours on Deepavali day. However, in a recent apex court directive had restricted the timing of bursting crackers only for two hours between 8 pm and 10 pm.
In a circular on November 2, issued by Under Secretary (Law and Order) to Home Department, has asked the Police Department to ensure that the rule is strictly following and to initiate to take action against the violators.
The state government has also restricted manufacture and sale of series crackers, only authorised dealers can sell crackers. It also urged all civilian to follow the rules and order issued by the apex court.
The circular has also directed all Mahanagar palikes, district administrations, Zilla Panchayats, taluk panchayats, town municipalities, and gram panchayats to boost people to celebrate community Deepavali, where people can burn crackers at one place.
In addition to this, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had asked to oversee the implementation of guidelines for seven days before the festival and seven days after.
The government has also directed the information department to conduct educational programmes in schools and colleges to create awareness among the students.
