Crowds flocks Kannur airport, Restriction to public entry from Wednesday


MATTANNUR: The authority has decided to restrict the public entry to the airport as inspection of customs and immigration wings is in progress.


Public entry will be restricted in the coming days and entry will be given only to the selected groups from Wednesday.

People in Keezhallur panchayat and Mattannur municipality will have an entry on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, only school students will be allowed to enter the airport. KIAL executive director requested all to cooperate with the decision.

The airport witnessed a huge rush of people as the authority opened it for the public visit from October 5.

The Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) opened the terminal to the public for a week as an opportunity for them to view the state’s latest major infrastructure project. The terminal’s doors have been opened from October 5-12, with visiting hours restricted from 10 am-4 pm. Visitors are required to carry proper photo ID cards. Parking facilities have been provided at the entrance of the airport, although no food/beverages are allowed inside.

Kannur range IG Balram Kumar Upadyaya visited the airport to review the security arrangements and examined the need to establish more security arrangements in the airport as a huge number of visitors are arriving at the airport. It is visible that the security officials are struggling to control the crowd here.

He held talks with Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) authority during the visit.

The customs and immigration officials will carry out an inspection at the airport on Tuesday as part of the establishment of the wing here.

KIAL Managing Director V Thulasi Das will hold a meeting with representatives of various aircraft companies on Tuesday. It is reported that along with Air India, Indigo and Go Air, other companies which expressed their interest to start service in Kannur airport. A decision will be taken regarding the air routes in which services will be operated from KIAL.
