THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Devaswom board has changed its earlier stand that special facilities will be provided to women reaching Sabarimala.

"The existing facilities will continue and there is no need for additional facilities,” said Travancore Devaswom board president A Padmakumar.

The announcement came hours after the board informed the high court that all arrangements, including pink toilets, for women pilgrims would be ensured at the hill shrine.

"Women who have come to Sabarimala earlier have been able to make use the present facilities and our further steps will be guided by the high court directions,” he added.

“ As of now, we are not deploying policewomen at Sannidhanam during the Malayalam month of Tulam. We don't want to insist all women, should go to Sabarimala. We shall abide by the court order and move on only after proper consultations. Devaswom board has no grudge against anyone," Padmakumar said.

Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said if women devotees are coming to Sabarimala they will not be blocked.
