THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government has appointed former Income Tax Commissioner R. Mohan as private secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Mohan succeeds senior CPM leader M V Jayarajan, who resigned as the Chief Minister’s private secretary after the Communist Party of India (Marxist) nominated him as the district secretary of the party in Kannur.
Mohan is the brother of former Chief Secretary Nalini Netto, who resigned as the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary on Tuesday.
Mohanan’s appointment comes a day after Nalini Netto quit as Chief Minister’s Chief Principal Secretary.
The sudden resignation of Nalini Netto had given rise to speculation.
There were reports that Netto quit following differences of opinion with some top officers with the CM’s office.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came down heavily on speculative reports about Netto’s resignation.
“Nalini Netto submitted the resignation on her own after her brother was appointed as my private secretary. The media could have known this had they inquired properly,” CM had said.
“The coverage of Nalini Netto's resignation by the media is a good example of twisting facts,” he added.
R Mohanan had worked with Reserve Bank of India before joining the Indian Revenue Service. He took voluntary retirement while serving as Income Tax commissioner in Coimbatore.
Later he became a senior consultant with the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation and visiting fellow with the Centre for Development Studies (CDS).
