Six killed as car plunges into canal near Pollachi

COIMBATORE: In a tragic accident, six members of a family died after their car plunged into Parambikulam-Aliyar-Project canal in Coimbatore on Wednesday.


As per the report, the accident occurred at Gedimedu at 1.30 am when they were returning home after visiting a temple in Palani.

The car plunged was completely submerged into the canal of the Parambikkulam Aliyar Project.

“Soon after receiving the report of the accident, fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot and pulled out the car around 6.30 am, all the six persons, including two children in the car were found dead”, the police said.

The deceased have been identified as R. Prakash (45), a cable operator, his wife P. Chitra (40), their daughter Pooja (8), Prakash’s sister Sumathi (50), Prakash’s sister in law P. Latha (42) and her child Dharani (9).

According to the report, all the deceased were related to each other and belonged to Masakalipalayam in Coimbatore.

As per the report, the dead bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the Pollachi General Hospital by 7.30 am.

Police have registered a case into the matter and an investigation is underway.
